circle                                   HUSBAND  and FATHER

 I have been married to Ann for 34 years.  We have three children, Jon, Elizabeth and Julie.  My
  children all graduated from  Muscatine High School and all 3 attended Muscatine Community College.
circle                           LONG TERM COUNTY RESIDENT

I was born in Waverly, Iowa.  I came to Muscatine in 1983 to work and have lived and raised my family here in Muscatine since 1985.

circle                           EDUCATION and EMPLOYMENT

I earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa in 1977.  After  building
houses for 3 years I went back to  school in 1980 and in 1982 earned a Juris Doctor Degree from the University of Iowa Law School, Iowa City, Iowa.  I was the Director of Muscatine Legal Services from 1983 until 1986, at which time I was appointed the Muscatine County Public Defender, a position I held for over 10 years.

circle                                          EXPERIENCE.                                          
 I have over 27 years of criminal law and trial experience.  As Public Defender, and in my private practice as well, I have successfully defended several jury trial prosecutions ranging from shoplifting to Murder and Kidnapping in the First Degree.  In addition, I have many years of experience managing my two-lawyer law firm.
circle                                   COMMUNITY SERVICE                              
I am an active member of St. Mary and Mathias Parish.  I served on various Boards including Great River Mental Health, Muscatine Legal Services, and Hershey Manor.  I am currently a member of Bishop Hayes Elementary School Board.  I help out at Loaves and Fishes and other worthy projects.  I have coached all 3 of my children’s various athletic teams, including baseball, soccer, and basketball.
circle                                          INTERESTS  

I love to golf, hunt and fish.  However, my favorite thing to do is to watch my children perform in their various activities, which include sports (soccer, basketball, cross country and volleyball), band, choir concerts and musicals.
