| This past weekend was a great one for door knocking. My wife Sharon, Don
Paulson, Nate Reichert and his mother Linda as well as Esther Dean
participated. The weather couldn't have been better, and the responses were really positive. We missed having John Wunder with us this past
weekend, but our thoughts were with him and his father. Something was
happening this weekend that I have not experienced before. You always have
one or two cars passing by that honk support, there were many cars that
honked and waved this weekend. It just seems as if the level of enthusiasm
and support is growing, and growing quickly. |

| This past weekend (August 28-29) was a lot of fun. It is great to be going out with a group of like minded people to talk about our candidates (including me of course). We knocked doors in Muscatine and I really enjoyed running into people that I have known through the years here. I even sunburned a little- and given that the years spent on the farm pretty much gave me a permanent tan a sunburn was pretty impressive! The parade in Wilton was wonderful, from Democrats crafting a great float in no time to the Shriners running their little three wheelers right in front of us. The best part though was all of the spontaneous applause that we got as Sharon and I carried the Democratic Banner at the head of our entourage.
Sunday John Wunder, Don Paulson, Sharon and I went door knocking in Atalissa in the early afternoon. It was hot, but there was a breeze blowing in from the country side so it was not uncomfortable. People were really gracious and I have to say I had fun.
Later Don Paulson and I joined Nathan, Sue Dravis and Nate's mom in Muscatine. Sharon had to prepare for her classes and John had to prep for a case so Don and I carried on. Had a great time again- did sweat a little in town but it was worth it. The people are fantastic and the questions, when they are asked, are great! I can't wait til next weekend. |

Running for political office for the first time in my life has been interesting to say the least. I have been out “door knocking” on three very hot days now this month. I was pleasantly surprised by the reception we are receiving regarding our campaigns.
However, a thread of ambivalence among Democrats is apparent in this off-year election. One Muscatine County resident told us that she only voted for President—and not any local offices. She felt that her vote in the local races would not make a difference… We local candidates are all dedicated to prudently spending your tax dollars. As the Democratic candidate for Muscatine County Attorney, I will work as hard for the citizens of Muscatine County as I do for my private clients. I will be a FULL-TIME presence in not only the County Attorney’s Office, but the Courthouse as well.
Folks: Your vote DOES count. If you want to see our local government offices wisely spending your hard-earned tax dollars in these difficult times, vote for someone who will listen, and respond, to your concerns. Our party has eager, competent people who are willing to work FOR ALL OF US who live in Muscatine County. We need your vote this upcoming election. Every vote counts. Please get out and vote. If you would rather, vote from your own home by Absentee ballot, but VOTE

Tales from Weekend DoorKnocking |
Democrats had a lot of fun doorknocking this weekend. Atalissa and Muscatine were hot but productive. Nathan, Linda, John, Don, Sandy, Paul, Sharon and Tom door knocked on Saturday. John, Don,Tom & Sharon and a whole crew of Muscatine and Cedar County Democrats joined Dave Loebsack for the Wilton Founders Day Parade in the afternoon.
Sunday found John, Don, Tom and Sharon in Atalissa where the entire community was completed. Several people were registered. In the early evening, Tom and Don joined Linda, Nathan and Sue in Muscatine. We had a chance to meet and talk with many people and hear their views on a variety of issues. |

Weekly Candidate Activities |
| Many candidates were busy making sure their signs and hand outs are plentiful and up-to-date. Large highway signs continue to be painted this week. Email the webmaster if you would like to help with the signs or if you would like to have a sign in your yard. (View our Picture Gallery Page for photos of our headquarters open house.) |

Wilton Founders Day Parade |
| We had a great turn-out at the Founders Day Parade. Tom and Becky Furlong drove the float to Wilton and Democrats busied themselves perfecting it for the display. Helen and Richard were there with their car covered in banners and Kas rode on the float. Kim, Dave and Carol, Becky and Tom, Helen, Richard and Loebsack volunteers all worked together. Of course, Betty kept us all in line. Cedar County Dems also had a large number of paraders. We happened to get behind the Shriners in parade line. It provided lots of extra entertainment for us all. |
